We met working in the lab at Aspirus. We spent several years as coworkers and didn't speak often. One January day, in 2020, Ryan posted a photo of 2 fish he had caught that day ice fishing. I couldn't help but respond to his post with " Oh, look how cute!". From there, we have spoken every day since.
The proposal took place at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This was our second trip up there as a couple. Eight miles into our hike along the Lake Superior shoreline, we stopped to eat lunch at a relaxing spot that we remembered from our first trip. The location overlooked a beautiful feature known as Lover's Leap, a heart-shaped archway in the midst of a colorful rock formation We had just eaten lunch, PB&J's, resting for a moment. I was wandering around following an interesting bug when I turned around to tell Ryan that I love him. His response was, "Do you love me enough to marry me?" Of course, I said YES! Lo and behold I had leftover jelly on my face the entire time!
