For those that don’t know our love story, Jay and I have known each other as acquaintances for almost 10 years. He’s best friends with my wonderful brother-in-law and sister, Chris and Christa. Fun fact: I asked them to set me up with Jay—so yes, I made the first move.
Our first non-official date was a Winger concert with Chris and Christa. We had the best time visiting and laughing at my sister, who smiled ear to ear and drooled over Kip Winger (who knew?). Needless to say, we were not Headed for a Heartbreak.
Even though we lived four hours apart, we saw each other nearly every weekend after that. Jay was the first to say “I love you,” but I wasn’t far behind. One night, my oldest son had a scary accident and was in the emergency room in Tulsa. Before I could even finish telling Jay what was going on, he said ‘I’ll be there in four hours so I can sit with you.” I already knew he was an incredible man who loves Jesus, but that’s when I knew I totally loved him.
