Question

What are my best flight options?

Answer

The most economical option to fly out of Tijuana, MX. Airline, Volaris, has good rates on flights to and from La Paz. Every year during early March, Volaris has an anniversary sale where you may find flights varying up to 70% off. In October of 2019, Alex and I traveled to La Paz with Volaris for about $100 round trip each. Volaris has various sales throughout the year - keep a look out!

Question

If I choose to fly to La Paz from Tijuana, do I have to cross into Tijuana to get to the airport?

Answer

If you choose to fly out of Tijuana, you do have the option to cross the Mexican border and take a taxi to the airport. You also have the option of crossing through the Cross Border Xpress (CBX). CBX is a fairly new and convenient bridge that serves as a border crossing located in southern San Diego when traveling from the Tijuana airport. For more information please visit https://www.crossborderxpress.com/en/.

Question

What do I need to cross through the CBX?

Answer

When crossing through the CBX, you'll need a few items: CBX ticket(s), boarding pass, and passport. You may only use the bridge within 24 hours to your flight departure. To purchase CBX tickets you'll need to visit the CBX website and purchase round trip tickets ($30) for each traveler. If you are a U.S. national, you are considered a foreigner in Mexico and when you arrive to CBX, the first thing you should do is complete a FMM Form (Forma Migratoria Múltiple). It takes about five to complete the form. To complete the FMM you'll need a valid Passport or Passport card. Cost as of January 2017, $533 Pesos (appx U.S. $24) per person; FREE if the trip is 7 days or less and you cross by land. May be issued for up to 180 days. Once you have the FMM form and have check in your bag, present your CBX ticket (printed or on your smart phone) at the gate and you will proceed through Mexican Customs.

Question

Do I need to rent a car in La Paz?

Answer

Depends what your plans are. It is fairly easy to drive around in La Paz if you choose to rent a car. Rates for car rental varies depending on what type of vehicle and insurance you select. When Alex and I traveled in October 2019, we rented a car for four days with the premium insurance and we spent about $200 total. Taxis and Uber are available in La Paz. The airport is approximately 20-25 minutes from Costa Baja resort.
