The short (30 minute) hike to the top of Mt. Philo is the best bang-for-your-buck hike near Burlington/Winooski. On a clear day you can see all the way across Lake Champlain to the Adirondack Mountains of NY.
Take a stroll along Waterfront Park to see beautiful Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains of NY across the lake. A late summer/early fall stroll in VT wouldn't be the same without a pit stop to get a maple creemee (soft serve ice cream) at Burlington Bay Cafe.
The waterfront bike path extends about 3 miles south and 3 miles north of Waterfront park, with Oakledge Park and Flynn Avenue restaurants/cafes in the south and North Beach Park in the north good riding destinations. Rent a bike and ride along the shores of Lake Champlain for beautiful views. If you're feeling ambitious you can ride all the way to the Colchester causeway, a rail trail that extends out into the lake (surrounded by water) towards the Champlain Islands (there's even a bike ferry on weekends to take cyclists to South Hero Island). This is a truly spectacular spot to visit.
Beautiful place to walk - and easy to bike to from downtown.
Another nice lakeside park along the Burlington bike path.
Great Winooski spot for breakfast/brunch.
Classic diner.
Great option for dinner - Vietnamese, BYOB.
Stop in for a creemee (VT soft serve). Maple flavored creemee couldn't get much more Vermont.
This is a beautiful loop through the woods that gives gorgeous views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks via lakeside cliffs. Highly recommend.
Award-winning baker makes incredible pastries to go along with coffee/tea. Take it to go and enjoy it with a nice view down the road at Oakledge Park!
