We met on a dating app!!! Jordan (Minnesota) and Allyson (Texas) met on a Christian dating app May 30th, 2022. Jordan reached out, and soon after, Allyson answered. Jordan had used dating apps off and on for a handful of years and was weary of online dating when he reached out to Allyson. He planned to delete his account if nothing came of his DM. Allyson had only been on dating apps since the beginning of the year and was holding on to a glimmer of hope when Jordan reached out– even though only eight days before, a guy had canceled a first date with Allyson a few hours before it was supposed to happen. She had no other dates come out of any dating app thus far. Jordan and Allyson quickly realized they both belonged to Sovereign Grace churches, had mutual friends, and were registered for the same conference, WorshipGod, happening two months later in Louisville, KY. Conversations came easy on the app when they realized that they both loved the outdoors and travel, hospitality, and shared a free spiritedness. They also quickly discovered they were homeschooled, both served on their church’s worship teams, and could relate on grief and hard seasons in life. Their first FaceTime went for 5 hours, and the next one, and the next…their longest facetime to date was about 7 hours straight. Jordan pursued Allyson quite confidently as the weeks went by, and Allyson was enjoying the conversations and realized a strong friendship was forming... Jordan's pursuit started to shine through. Both were amazed by each other's listening ear, kindness, joy, and creativity... sending snacks through DoorDash, gift cards to Caribou Coffee– Jordan even sent a birthday care package to Allyson's home, only three weeks into dating/Facetiming. Fast forward to the WorshipGod conference at the end of July of 2022, and they were both on the edge of their seats wondering what the Lord would do in those five days they would be together in the same place. For the first time. Allyson thought she viewed Jordan as just a great friend as the conference wrapped up. Even then, Jordan never backed down and still pursued Allyson so well over the months surrounding– and the days during– the conference. Jordan felt God pulling on his heart early on in a growing desire to marry her... They technically went their separate ways after the conference, but before either of their flights took off for home, The Lord was stirring something in their hearts, especially Allyson's... He taught her afresh to trust in the Lord's good work and to not be anxious for tomorrow. Jordan came to Houston for the first time in September of 2022. Allyson's first trip to Minnesota was in October. By God's grace, their interest, care, desire, and deep friendship grew with each trip! They will have had about ten trips each by their wedding day. Allyson will move to Minnesota after they are married! "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." ~ Hebrews 11:1 “When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence. From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.” ~ Isaiah 64:3-4
Jordan surprised Allyson in the most wonderful way... On August 18th, 2023, he secretly flew into town with his parents and proposed to Allyson at Pearland Coffee Roasters– the coffee shop they’ve frequented during Jordan's visits. Jordan had the loving help of both his family and Allyson's, and her friends, over a month leading up to the special occasion. Jordan wrote a song for Allyson on the flight to Houston for the proposal. The beautifully planned proposal was followed by a surprise engagement party with their families, Allyson’s church family, and many more friends!
