We both moved to Columbus, Ga in the fall of 2018. Since we both didn't know anyone in this new city, we downloaded a dating app. We were a match on the app and Gilbert invited me to Sunday breakfast at his favorite breakfast spot. Since that first date, we still go to breakfast at the same place every Sunday!
Gilbert had a weekend off ( very rare for him) so we decided to take a mini vacation. Gilbert let me plan the whole weekend so we went to Savannah, Georgia. Friday night, we went to a quaint little french bistro that was magnificent! Gilbert shared with me his stories from his trip to France with the Army for a D-Day celebration in Normandy! How cool! Saturday, we woke up early for a tour of Old Fort Jackson. I love all things history so this was very thrilling for me. Gilbert was a trouper and enjoyed it, just not with the same enthusiasm! After Old Fort Jackson, we went downtown to The Mercer House and took a tour through the gorgeous estate. Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil is my all time favorite book and this house and its owner are the main focus of the book. Jim Williams, the owner of the estate restored many, many houses in Savannah and helped turn the town into what it is today! After our tour through Mercer House, we stopped for a light lunch at another little cafe. After lunch, Gilbert took me to my all time favorite store, Lilly Pulitzer, and let me pick out a new dress for my collection! For dinner, Gilbert took me to The Olde Pink House, which is an old colonial mansion that was restored by Jim Williams! Dinner was incredible with a wonderful view of the city! The evening was to be concluded with a sunset cruise down the Savannah River. The sky was threatening rain all day long, so Gilbert gave up on waiting for the sun to come out and for a sunset. The riverboat wasn’t busy at all so we had a whole section of the boat all to ourselves. Gilbert got down on one knee right as we were went under the Savannah Bridge and asked me to marry him! After I said YES! he put my ring on and the sky opened up to the most beautiful sunset ever! Lastly, for Sunday morning, Gilbert took me to Clary’s cafe, another important restaurant from my favorite book! Sunday was forcasted for rain all day so we cut the trip short and headed back home after breakfast.
