How we met

June 30-Friday: Day Trip to Mount Meron + Safed

After spending almost our entire lives 10 miles apart, we met 5,648 miles away in Israel on a day trip to Mount Meron & Safed. Our bus left at 8 AM from the Neve-Sha’anan gate at the Technion. The first impressions were not great, with Gilad talking loudly, as he does, while Rachel was trying to grab some shut-eye on the bus. However, after bonding over not wanting to drink red wine and love for falafel, we kicked it off immediately. After Rachel insisted on walking from the Technion to Yir Tachitt, Gilad got concerned and contacted Rachel to make sure she was safe, and the rest was history.

The proposal - His Point of view

The secret that wasn't a secret

During the summer of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic, I made the then familiar drive up to Boston. This is for what should have been a surprise weekend if I was not terrible at keeping secrets from Rachel. Early on the next day's morning, I made way to all the key stops, Tatte, the florist, Starbucks, and lastly my friends Gabi and Paul who took me to the Boston gardens where we set the scene. I then went back to pick up Rachel where I gave her, her coffee and proceeded to blindfold her. I drove her to the gardens parking across the street. I then walked her over (something she was not to fond of) and we crossed the street where Rachel made me ensure the light was green. We walked to the designated spot where I told her to take off her blindfold where she saw me on my knee and the picnic arrayed behind us.

The proposal - Her Point of view

Nothing like crossing a busy Boston street blindfolded

In July of 2020 during the pandemic, Gilad came to Boston to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and my birthday. Although he tried to hide it from me, I knew Gilad was going to propose once he told me he had a very big surprise for me a week before he came. On the day of the proposal, I waited for Gilad to pick me up from my apartment. Once there, Gilad led me to his car, and then blindfolded me. Even though I knew what was happening, I started becoming so excited. As Gilad parked the car, he said we would have to walk to the spot, and that I needed to trust him to lead me there. Although I trusted him, I was very scared throughout the entire one-block walk, especially after he tried to make me cross the street blindfolded while we had a red light. Once we got to the spot, Gilad took the blindfold off, and I yelled, "What is going on", even though I knew he was proposing. Then I saw him on his knees with the ring, and, of course, said yes and to never blindfold me again.
