Despite both being at the University of South Carolina at the same time, just one year apart, Emily and Lee somehow never crossed paths. They lived parallel college lives, unknowingly sharing the same campus, the same chapter of time, and even a few of the same friends—but their story wasn’t ready yet. It would take six more years—and the wedding of a mutual friend—to finally bring them together. Emily and the bride were Delta Zeta sorority sisters, while Lee and the bride had been good friends throughout college. Lee spotted Emily across the patio at cocktail hour and was captivated by the sight of her in a hot pink, high-neck dress. Fate stepped in again, when to Lee's delight, they were seated at the same table for the reception. Lee didn't waste the opportunity, walking up to the table, locking eyes with Emily and asking the whole table questions while looking at her. As the reception progressed, Lee asked Emily to dance, requesting the DJ to play Tennessee Whiskey. At the end of the night, Lee drove Emily back to her hotel. And in the quiet glow of the parking lot, next to a kelly green Waste Management dumpster, they played music, danced under the stars, and talked for hours, losing track of time until nearly 5 a.m., when they finally said good night. Before they went their separate ways, Lee asked one last question: “If I drive to Charleston next weekend, will you go out with me?” She said yes. And the rest, truly, was history.
