FLIGHT & TRANSPORTATION TIPS

✈️ FLIGHT TO MEXICO CITY ✈️ Most international flights will bring you to Terminal 2 of the Benito Juárez International Airport. We highly recommend Aeroméxico but there are some good United flights as well. 🛃 CUSTOMS & IMMIGRATION 🛃 When you get off the plane you will be guided towards the immigration queue. Since you are coming as a tourist, you can go through the automated system to the far LEFT and it should be relatively quick! You will likely receive a small print out with the details of your visit. Stick it in your passport and don't lose it, you will turn it in when you depart Mexico. After exiting immigration, you can pick up checked luggage at the carousels. From there, you will go through customs. If you are asked to press a stoplight button, a green light means you continue through and a red light indicates further inspection. 🚌 BUS TO PUEBLA 🚌 From customs, you will exit through sliding glass doors and head to the RIGHT towards the Ground Transportation terminal. The sign to follow says Autobuses foráneos. There is a small bus terminal at the far end of Terminal 2. Purchase a ticket to the Paseo Destino Bus Terminal in Puebla (NOT Puebla CAPU) through Estrella Roja or ADO (Ah, De, Oh). Between those two companies you can usually get on a bus within 20 minutes as they both have departures every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day. The cost is approximately $20 USD or 420 pesos per person. You can make the purchase with a credit or debit card, or cash, which you can withdraw in pesos from one of the ATMs in the airport on the way to the bus terminal. The buses are comfortable and the trip should take between 2 and 2.5 hours. 🚕 FROM PASEO DESTINO TO YOUR HOTEL 🚕 You can take a taxi or Uber to your hotel in Cholula. The ride takes between 15 and 25 minutes depending on traffic. ✈️ FLYING TO PUEBLA ✈️ If you prefer, you can fly to the International Airport of Puebla, then take a taxi or Uber to your hotel in Cholula (approx 40 min ride).

🏔️ CHOLULA & PUEBLA 🏔️

Welcome to Cholula, a historic town just a few miles west of Puebla City. We chose this town for our wedding because of the sweet oasis of the botanical garden, and of course because most of Gian's family lives here! But for those of you coming from the Bay Area and beyond, we are excited to give you an excuse to visit this culturally and historically rich part of the world. Cholula is said to be one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in all of Latin America, having been a bustling town for at least 2,500 years, with the first inhabitants arriving to the region at least 9,000 years ago. It is home to possibly the largest pyramid in the world, Tlachihualtepetl or the Great Pyramid of Cholula. A church, still in use today, sits atop this ancient mountain-pyramid. Built in 1594 during Spanish colonization, it stands as a symbol of both the region’s deep history and the brutal consequences of colonization. There’s so much more to learn about the history and culture here, and we hope you’ll take time to visit the museums, archaeological sites, and fantastic local restaurants during your stay for our wedding. Puebla City, the capital of the state of Puebla and Gian's hometown!, is one of Mexico's most populous cities, with 1.7 million residents. Puebla, also birthplace of the delicious and iconic mole (!!!!), boasts a beautiful historic center with a main cathedral that takes up an entire city block! We recommend giving yourself a few days in each town to walk around the historic centers, EAT, admire the talavera pottery that this region is famous for, and visit the wonderful museums. ⛅️ WEATHER & ALTITUDE 🏔️ 🌧️

June is rainy season in Mexico! This region has some of the most dramatic skies and gorgeous clouds. Bring an umbrella and raincoat, and pack for perfect, warm days with the potential for late afternoon hailstorms and thunder 🤣 Then pray that we get clear skies on the wedding day! And... I usually forget to mention this! 😬 Puebla is 7,005 feet above sea level (a bit higher than Tahoe) so if you are prone to altitude sickness, make sure you are well-rested, well-nourished and well-hydrated before your trip. Most people do not experience any symptoms, but keep it in mind as a possibility. Here is a good article from the government of Mexico City.
