Our Story

After several years of praying about finding a spouse, Giang and I first met on Instagram in July of 2024. After two months of messages and phone calls, we decided to meet in Hanoi where she was working as a teacher at a Christian school. We also took a train to Haiphong together so that she could introduce me to her family. Even though it was our first time meeting, it was quickly evident that we had a strong connection and many things in common. We continued to call and text whenever we had the chance, visiting again in November and spending Christmas and New Year's with her family in Haiphong. Later in January, Giang came to Bangkok, Thailand, where I was also working at a Christian school, in order to meet my parents. We both got along well with each others' families and received the blessing to get married. I brought a ring and proposed to Giang at a park that we frequent in Haiphong on March 7, 2025. She said yes! That spring, I visited her several times during long weekends from work while we prepared for a traditional Vietnamese engagement ceremony in Haiphong. On June 28, 2025, her parents threw a large engagement ceremony, which my father and some friends from Thailand also attended. We were excited to be betrothed and start to plan our life together. After a summer visiting family in the US and studying Vietnamese, I returned to spend September-November in Vietnam. During this time, we went on a mission trip in Nhatrang, visited her sister in Saigon, and joined her church in Hanoi. After that, the bulk of the time was spent in Haiphong with her family, as well as teaching an English class together at a local coffee shop. Cooking/baking, taking day trips, and going for walks are our favorite things to do together. We also visited friends in Thailand together before I returned to the US for the holidays and waited for the visa approval. Finally, in March, we received the good news that her visa interview was scheduled. I arrived in April to spend a week with her family and we attended the interview together in Saigon. We couldn't be more excited to get married this May! We plan to stay in Portland until August, when we will move to Fort Wayne, Indiana for seminary. We are so grateful that God has brought us together and are committed to serving God through our life and marriage.
