Ghafton and Kayla’s paths crossed when they were both home for the summer from college. Kayla walked into Ghafton’s place of employment and they locked eyes but did not speak. Intervention from Ghafton’s coworker and Kayla’s sister led to the exchange of numbers and the rest was history.
It was a crisp Sunday morning just days before Christmas. Ghafton and Kayla were home for the holidays and decided to go to church. Ghafton convinced Kayla to ride in separate cars. (she should have known something was up because that never happened!) Kayla arrived to church on time but Ghafton was late. She noticed a lot of familiar faces (friends and family) that she normally did not see at her home church but she didn’t think anything of it and assumed they were there to see her and Ghafton since they were home only for a few days. By the end of the service, Kayla still had not seen Ghafton. As she glanced around to see if she may have missed him, she noticed him standing outside the glass doors with a security guard and a group of friends. She immediately went out to see what was going on and could see that he was upset as if something had just went wrong. Everyone including Ghafton reassured her that everything was fine, so she went back inside and sat next to her mother, who didn’t even bother asking what happened. (she knew what was about to happen all along!) Suddenly, as the pastor started the benediction, Ghafton walked up the isle to the front of the church. Kayla was confused and Ghafton’s heart was beating out of his chest. Then, one of his friends came to Kayla and told her that Ghafton wanted her to come up and pray with him, so she did. The preacher then said, “Ghafton has a few words to say,” and all of our friends and family pulled out their cameras. Something was definitely up. One thing led to another, and Ghafton was down on one knee. He popped the question and she happily said YES!
