Robert Version: During January of 2015, I was gaming on Xbox Live with the boys. They were mentioning this girl name Geuly on xbox live chat. My eyes popped out of my head when I noticed this beautiful girl on facebook (She was even single). In February of 2015, I then followed her on twitter and replied to a tweet or two on her twitter. In my mind, I was single and thinking, “What is the worst thing that could happen?” After these tweets, a couple days before Valentine’s Day, I go to her english class (Mrs. Curl’s Class), and I asked Mrs. Curl if I could sit down in her class till the school day ends. She allowed me to because in High School, I got along with all the teachers. When I walked in the classroom, I purposely sat behind her. I knew at that moment she was nervous but so was I. To make it even better, they were taking a test during that day also. When the class ended, I walked her to her locker and asked her out on Valentine’s Day (it was a Saturday) to go on a date with me. She said yes and we exchanged numbers. We texted till that day and even told her that the day would be more than just dinner and a movie but also paintballing during that day for a family event. She agreed and we did just that. During Valentine’s Day, we went paintballing (I did get to shoot her a couple of times), ate dinner at Sammio’s (if you are from Hope Mills everyone knows this classic restaurant), and watched a movie at Millstone theater. After Valentine’s Day Date, we continued texting, going on dates, and hanging out. We made it official, (as boyfriend and girlfriend) on 03.14.15. And the rest is history. Geuly Version: Robert did a pretty good job with the story, but I could add a little more context. I first noticed him at a school award ceremony for seniors. I was in the International Bachelor Program at our school and knew all the kids that were top of our graduating class because most of them were in that program. He stood out to me immediately because I didn't know him, and he was fourth in our class ( smarty pants). I remembered his name from that day and thought he was cute. I began to ask my best friends Meagan and Erika about him. Their responses were comical as they remembered him as an odd, nerdy kid from middle school. I later came to find out that he and Meagan shared the same bus stop all through school. So once I had done all my research on him, I started walking around my house telling everyone, "This boy is going to be my bf" (totally normal, not delusional at all). I followed him on social media, stopped dressing like a bum (remember, end of senior year = senioritis), and started talking to his friends that I knew from school. He made the bold and unorthodox move of asking me for my number after sitting in my English class for an hour. We were two seniors who had their college plans all made. I was going to East Carolina University, and he was going to Virginia Tech. I had hopes of us having fun and getting to know each other but had no real expectations of us staying together through college. I told Robert that very first year that we would just try and see how we managed long-distance freshman year and no hard feelings if things didn't work out. Little did I know this was only our beginning.
Our journey, like most things in life, did not follow the easiest path. We went from 17 and 19-year-old kids with crushes to a college long-distance couple. Despite the distance, we grew a love built on hope, communication, trust, friendship, and the willingness to adapt. We have finally arrived at our chapter of togetherness and currently live in Virginia Beach, VA. We could not think of a better way to celebrate our love than to invite you all to witness our union in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We hope you all (like our love) can travel the distance. See you in paradise, XOXO - Geuly & Robert
