Anywhere in the 5 cities would be an amazing place to stay. The best places to tour would be Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Oceano. You can also stay in Grover Beach or Arroyo Grande. If you just want to be close to the venue, Nipomo is your best bet. Not much to do in that town though.
