During freshman year orientation at Iowa, we both signed up for a program called “Courses in Common,” which enrolls first-year students in courses together with about 20 other first-year students as a way to meet people. We signed up for the same CIC and actually met for the first time on our first day of college. Though we didn’t talk much initially, Kenzie had a crush on Mike from the get-go and would look for excuses to talk to Mike, such as asking him about the Cambus route from the dorms to their 9 a.m. class ( she never once took the Cambus to that class). At the end of the first semester, Mike got a copy of the final exam for their “Life in the Universe” exam and asked Kenzie to study (memorize the test) with him and thus began their friendship, which quickly developed into more. The rest was history!
