How We Met

The Hunt of a Lifetime

We met on a hunting trip in Alberta. He was guiding me for my first wolf on a short, 5 day trip, but neither of us realized that those 5 days would turn into a lifetime long adventure. While we had good chemistry then, neither of us thought anything of it until I came back 6 months later for an elk hunt that fall. And then it clicked. Neither of us had had so much fun or laughed so hard in our lives, and as the two week trip came to an end, the conversations continued and the miles between us seemed unacceptable. That's how I found myself falling in love with an Alberta Farm Boy and him a Southern Belle. So here we are - bringing a little Southern Charm to Canada and a little 'Eh' to the south.

The Proposal

Heaven is a Place on Earth

Our vacation property in northern Alberta is very special to us. It's where he has gone for years to get away from the stresses of life and it's where we first got to know each other. We fondly refer to it as "Heaven", because, well, for us it is. It's our sanctuary from everything; where we can go to hunt or fish on our trout pond, go for quad rides, and overall enjoy the outdoors and each other. Zero cell service. No distractions. Just us and the wildlife. That is truly our Heaven. So, if you know Richard, you know that he is obsessed with his trout pond on our land and all the "kids" we have stocked in there. Not only is it something he built himself, but it holds a very special connection for him to his Dad. So there are days that we spend hours just sitting on the dock feeding the fish, watching the birds, talking about our future plans (winning the lotto), and just enjoying each other's company. One day while on our dock, he was telling me how special Heaven was to him and how even more special I had made it since coming into his life, that we had rescued each other and he was so glad he could share this special place with me. Next thing I knew, he was down on one knee, my hands in his, asking me if I would make him the happiest man in the world. Tears in both our eyes, hearts pounding with the realness of our unbridled happiness and love, I of course said "yes!".
