The best suggestion we got from a friend (Kimmy) was to download Gypsy Guide app and purchase the 'Road to Hana - Original & Loop Routes' guide. Put this audio on in the car and start it in Kahului when you begin your journey.
We watched the sunset at Haleakala and I was in tears (Ger). It was the most beautiful sunset I have seen. Haleakalā means 'House of the Sun'. Make sure to pack warm clothes as it is frigid at the top. Cody wore shorts (because he did not take my advise) and he told me he would've loved some pants. The road to the top is full of windy roads and you are driving on the edge of the volcano (dormant), but the views are amazing as you get higher and higher. Make sure to make a reservation in advance and be prepared to wake up super early if you want to go for sunrise, however there is an entrance fee for vehicles you can pay at the park. The park is open 24 hours so you can go anytime (except for 3 am - 7 am, which requires the sunrise reservation) as well as go hiking!
One of my (Ger) favorite memories was when Cody got called up on stage at the Sheraton Maui Nui Luau! The dances were amazing to watch and food/drinks were all included. There are several Luau's on the island to choose from. The link will give you a few to choose from.
We highly recommend renting snorkeling gear for the day and visiting top snorkeling spots. You can also book snorkeling tours. Please remember to be respectful of marine life and keep distance from coral structures! Highly recommend snorkeling at: - Black Rock Beach - Molokini Crater - Honolua Bay - Makena Landing - Kahekili Beach Park
There are so many amazing beaches in Maui! A few we recommend: - Black Rock Beach - Kāʻanapali Beach - Wai'anapanapa State Park - Kapalua Bay - Napili Bay - Secret Cove - Wailea Beach - Honokalani Beach - Ho'okipa Beach
We recommend to always try and support the local small business/restaurants and shops for amazing food and culture! They never miss and will always be a wonderful experience! Some other great recommendations for restaurants: - Mama's Fish House (Be sure to book in advance!) - Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa - South MauiFish Co. - Merriman's Kapalua - Monkey Pod Kitchen - Paia Fish Market - Joey's Kitchen
