Growing up on the Illinois side of St. Louis, Kayla and Grant’s lives often crossed paths. To Kayla, Grant was the stud pitcher at Highland High School, the guy who hit the walk-off to win the 2015 Illinois Baseball State Title. To Grant, Kayla was the "cute girl on the dance team with the dark, curly hair" who went on to win three Illinois Dance State titles (but who's counting?). They knew of each other for years, but their story didn’t begin until March of 2020. Grant came across a social media post of Kayla anchoring her student-run newscast at the University of Oklahoma. He saw an opportunity to reach out, since both of them were studying communications, and decided to send a message. Kayla was on the phone with her dad at the time, packing up her sorority room as OU shut down for the pandemic. When Grant's name popped up on her phone, her dad recognized him immediately. Grant had helped coach Kayla's brother’s baseball team years earlier. “You should talk to that guy,” her dad said. So, she did. What began as a simple message quickly turned into something more. Being back home in Illinois wasn’t in Kayla’s plans, but it turned out to be a blessing. With the world paused, they had the time to truly get to know each other. Grant asked Kayla on their first date on May 11, 2020. With most places still closed, they grabbed Dairy Queen chicken strip baskets, took a scenic drive up the Illinois river road, and talked for hours. On June 27, 2020, Grant officially asked Kayla to be his girlfriend. Not long after, Kayla returned to OU to finish her degree while Grant began working full-time at World Wide Technology. Two years of long-distance dating followed, filled with road trips, phone calls, and a growing belief that they were building something real. After graduation, Kayla took her first job in TV news in Northwest Arkansas, and the couple decided it was time to finally live in the same city. Grant moved south, and the two began their next chapter together. Eventually, they made their way to Oklahoma City, where Kayla now works in marketing and Grant continues his career at WWT. On June 8, 2024, Grant got down on one knee and asked Kayla to marry him. In between all the moves and milestones, they’ve built a life full of laughter, dance lessons, dive bars, deep talks, and endless playlists. They’ve traveled to 11 states together so far, with plans to hit all 50. They share a love for food, music, and movies, and balance each other perfectly. Kayla brings the spontaneity, and Grant brings the calm. She keeps things exciting. He keeps things steady. They’ve grown together through big changes, new jobs, and new cities, and they’re ready for the next great adventure: marriage. Thank you for being part of their story. They can't wait to celebrate with you!
