Things To Do

This is your holiday too, and we want to make sure you're having as much fun as possible! Other than our wedding, here are some ideas of things to do while you're in Zanzibar...
Dive!

Dive!

Aquarium-like conditions combined with an array of macro and giant marine life makes Zanzibar one of the world's premier dive destinations. The coral reefs of Zanzibar are some of the most abundant in the world with over 500 species of marine species. In turn warm Indian Ocean water creates water temperatures consistently around 80F (27C) and visibility that often exceeds 100ft (30m). In July you'll even have the chance to hear and see Humpback Whales in the water! Gee will definitely be squeezing in a dive or two while in Zanzibar so let her know if you’d like to come along!

Play Golf!

Play Golf!

Seacliff has the only golf course on the island of Zanzibar. Golfers will enjoy the 9-hole Matkovitch course with its club house, under-cover driving range and practice greens, while enjoying the natural features of the island. To top it all, two of the last holes are played along the Indian Ocean! The course has been designed with variation in distance and direction on the front and back 9 to create an experience of playing full 18 holes. The course has a par 71, which includes short and long par 4’s and a couple of drivable options.

VISIT STONE TOWN

VISIT STONE TOWN

Steeped in history and overflowing with charm, Stone Town is the iconic capital of Zanzibar. Interesting fact ... Freddie Mercury, Queen's lead singer, was born in Stone Town.

WATCH THE SUN SET

WATCH THE SUN SET

Zanzibar is also synonymous with stunning red sunsets ... and there are a number of unique locations to experience them. Contrary to what many people may think prior to arrival, Stone Town is likely to be the most spectacular place on the island to witness the last light of day.

SNORKELLING AT MNEMBA ATOLL

SNORKELLING AT MNEMBA ATOLL

Snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll is quite possibly the best “value for money” tour in the world. This may sound like a sweeping statement, but provided you choose the right boat captain, the return on investment for this $25 trip is no less than incredible.

GIANT TURTLES ON PRISON ISLAND

GIANT TURTLES ON PRISON ISLAND

Prison Island is a must-see Zanzibar attraction. Also known as Changuu, Prison Island is an 800 by 200 metre island found about 6 kilometres north-west of Stone Town.

THE ROCK RESTAURANT

THE ROCK RESTAURANT

The Rock is located on the east coast of Zanzibar and while it may take an hour or so to reach the restaurant from Stone Town (and about 90 minutes from Zanzibar's northern tip), you will absolutely not regret making the effort it takes to get there. Situated on a rock perched up over the ocean, this restaurant is not actually known best for the glorious food they serve but rather for its idyllic and very unique setting. If the budget allows for it, this is one of the very best restaurants and things to do in Zanzibar but make sure you place a reservation as it is usually full, especially in the high season.

TAKE A SPICE FARM TOUR

TAKE A SPICE FARM TOUR

Zanzibar is nicknamed the spice island for good reason! Spices were first introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century, when they were transported from colonies in Goa and Brazil. It wasn’t until the Omanis arrived, though, several hundred years later, that the spice trade truly thrived. This spice trade combined with slaving made Stone Town one of the richest cities in Africa. These days, the production of cloves is declining while tourism is skyrocketing, resulting in much of the spice industry turning towards plantation tours. There are many tour operators on the island and it’s easy to find a guide who will introduce you to the aromatic world of spices for about 15 USD. The reception in your hotel is a good place to start when looking for an operator.
