When David and I matched on Tinder, our first conversation immediately went to music and soon turned into setting up a date for drinks later on that week. Since he had just moved to the area, I was responsible for picking the place and I went with an old favorite: The Outpost. The Outpost, a tiki bar built in an old residential home in Downtown Raleigh, had an amazing patio and house party-esque vibe and was my favorite bar in Raleigh (unfortunately, it has since closed down). David arrived a couple minutes before I did and was waiting on the front porch for me - my very first thought upon meeting him was "Oh, thank god he's tall." After doing the awkward introductions, we head inside as he is telling me about all the people mistaking him for a bouncer while he was waiting for me. We get drinks and head out to the patio where it was more quiet. Once settled, we started talking and ended up in a candid conversation about mental health until the patio started to fill up. One of the groups that sat next to us had just come from a "game night" at one of the local restaurants. David, being David, perked up and asked what kinds of games they liked playing - turns out it wasn't a game night as in board games, it was a game night as in meat hunted for sport. We all start talking about all the game we've tried until someone casually mentions that, if given the chance, they would partake in cannibalism. This is the point where we came to an unspoken decision that it would be best to excuse ourselves from the conversation and not return. Instead, we closed out our tabs and decided to find some food. We wandered around downtown for a bit trying to figure out what to eat, settling on a pizza place that is known for their massive slices. As we sat down to eat, we immediately brought up that guy from the bar and from there I knew this would be something special.
