How We Met

January 2012

After months of avoiding hanging out with friends, Geoffrey's best friend Andrew convinced him to socialize one night at The Glenwood, a neighborhood bar in Rogers Park. The catch? Andrew was setting Geoffrey up with Marc, a casual acquaintance of his whom he thought Geoffrey might enjoy meeting as both Geoffrey and Marc were in to Star Trek and Doctor Who, or as Andrew put it, "nerd stuff". Several drinks were had; Marc kicked Geoffrey's ass in a couple games of Darts; and Andrew ensured that he and his friends left them alone several times where Geoffrey and Marc did discover that they were both obsessed with Doctor Who. The night ended with big hugs and two guys who went home very happy. Over the next several months a close friendship grew between these two; including many late nights spent standing at the corner of Foster and Clark discussing Doctor Who; neither guy wanting to go home and have the evening end. Months later, in August of 2013, the question was asked and the answer was given. These two guys would become involved in a romantic relationship and start dating. Hidden from their friends for the next few weeks, their adoration and love continued to grow and in March of 2014 Geoffrey and Marc moved in together. All adventures have a beginning and this was theirs.

The Proposal

March 19th, 2015

The moment had been planned for. In March of 2015 Geoffrey and Marc were going to vacation at Disney World. This was the moment Geoffrey had decided to propose marriage. It was perfect. The rings were ordered and the proposal would happen during dinner at Cinderella's Castle on Marc's birthday, Monday 3/16. Geoffrey was nervous but it would be romantic, whimsical, fun. Well, the universe is a petulant child and loves to shit on the best laid plans. The rings were delivered to an old address and were lost. With no rings for Monday's dinner proposal, Geoffrey was beside himself with stress. New rings wouldn't be delivered to the resort until Tuesday. The new plan? Choose another dinner to propose at. The rings arrived Tuesday and Marc had no idea. The plan was set for dinner Wednesday night. A lovely dinner, a romantic proposal, everyone will be in tears. Perfection! Except the universe is a real son of a bitch. Wednesday Marc lost his wallet. The moment was lost. Marc literally got a cold from the stress. Back to the room for a night of ordered food and worrying if the wallet would turn up. Thursday morning the wallet was recovered from Lost and Found. The vacation was fun again. The proposal was planned for during dinner at the French Pavilion. But the mood in the restaurant was not right. Geoffrey could not propose. A new plan hatched; after dinner go to a lovely path near the lake and present the ring. After dinner they walked out the door and it started raining; hard. Geoffrey was panicked. This was the last best chance but it was a disaster. What could be done? Halfway though Epcot heading to the busses he pulled Marc under a bench umbrella. Geoffrey babbles that he loves Marc, that he has never been happier and practically throws the ring in Marc's face asking if he will marry him. Marc snatches the ring from his hand declaring "WHAT!? Why aren't you on your knees?!". The two kissed, hugged, and the rest is a very wet walk to the bus stop hand in hand.
