We both met by swiping right. Many people will know what that means, but for those who don’t we met on a dating app. Geoff was the first one to start the conversation after we matched by saying, “Do you like dogs?” (He saw that I worked at a veterinary hospital). My obvious answer was yes and our conversations grew. After I learned that Geoff was on an episode of naked and afraid I was a little skeptical thinking “Is this dude even real?” Our first date was in February of 2017. We decided that going on a short afternoon winter hike before work was the best plan for our first date and found a good spot called Token Creek Conservancy Trail. A place we still visit. Geoff brought his dog Oscar, and I brought pepper spray…..turns out I didn’t need it! Geoff planned many dates for us after that and the adventures began. We spent a lot of time going on canoe trips and hikes all over Wisconsin with the dogs. Many memories camping and portaging through long trails and exploring new places. He took me on my first boundary waters trip out of Ely Minnesota that spring (where I caught a bigger fish than him) and a lot of time spent that summer enjoying Lake Superior. More memories made by welcoming our son Leo and building our family in 2018 followed up with buying our first home in 2019! Fast forward to now and we are finally getting married and can’t wait to celebrate with all our friends and family!
Geoff decided to plan his proposal while I was out getting a Valentine’s Day balloon and treat for Leo. I came home to find a card on the front door. I thought it was just a Valentine’s Day card since we get each other one every year. Geoff took the opportunity while I stepped out to set up his proposal idea before I got home. I opened the card and realized there was more to it. It was the start to a scavenger hunt to find the ring. He used our cat Little for the entire proposal. I had to follow each note leading to Little’s whereabouts. I then find Little being the good boy that he is with the last note tied to him before Geoff proposed. I will always keep those scavenger hunt notes and Valentine’s Day card tucked away. I of course said yes <3
We decided to get this wedding planned in less than a year. It didn’t take long to find an amazing venue. My parents and I looked at a handful while Geoff was at work. After getting home from a long day of venue searching we filled Geoff in on all the places and the dates that were available. There was one venue that had a date for Friday October 14th of this year. October 14th is Geoff’s Mema’s birthday and that is why we chose this date. Geoff was very close with his mema and she passed away in September of 2017. Although I got to meet mema, I never got to know her as everyone else knew her. Geoff had many memories and stories to tell me all the time of him and mema. How important and memorable his Canada trips were with mema and bapa. So when that date popped up as an available date and being her birthday we have decided to choose that as our wedding date!
