How They Met

~ Thank you, Guardians of the Galaxy ~

When Genevieve was a freshman at DeSales, suffering through a superhero-themed orientation weekend, Adrian was a Sophomore Peer Mentor, dressed to the nines in galaxy-patterned leggings, tutu, and a silicone Baby Groot strapped to his shoulder. This moment was the first time Genevieve laid eyes upon Adrian. Naturally, she was too focused on that day's eighth rendition of the Cupid Shuffle to make any not-dance-related moves.

How Genevieve Decided They Would Get Married Someday

~ Yes, this is step 2 in the story ~

At a DSU leadership training in January of 2019, Genevieve overheard Adrian speaking to a gaggle of admirers about his love for drawing, and then later about a powerful experience he had at Eucharistic Adoration. Between his talent for art, his love for Jesus, and his enormous smile, Genevieve decided (from a safe distance) that if someone from the future came to her and told her that she would marry Adrian someday, she would not be surprised (yes, she really did have this thought).

The Will They/Won't They

~ Involving resumé writing, a flight to Phoenix, and a laundry room ~

Adrian and Genevieve started to interact more and more. Both were members of the DSU Chorale, both were involved in Campus Ministry, and both worked as Career Ambassadors in the Career Development Center. For the Fall 2019 Semester, Genevieve carefully rearranged her schedule so that she and Adrian would work the same shift. Adrian wrote an adorable "Meet the Staff" Instagram post about Genevieve that made her inwardly shriek with joy. Finally, after an incredible trip to Phoenix for the Catholic FOCUS conference (during which Adrian was popping Vitamin B pills so he could stay awake talking to Genevieve during the flight) it was time for the couple to finally move things forward. Adrian determined on January 9, 2020 that if he just happened to run into Genevieve in the lobby of Annecy Hall while he dropped something off, then he would tell her he liked her. At the exact moment he made this decision, Genevieve, having been locked away in her Annecy dorm room all day long, finally remembered her laundry, which had been done for five hours. She came downstairs and spotted Adrian (who looked to be in absolute shock). He then ushered her into the laundry room to finally tell her how he felt (spoiler: Genevieve liked him back. a lot).

The Proposal

~ After 4.5 years of dating through a pandemic, long-distance grad school, and Adrian's disc golf obsession ~

Both while she was at grad school in Indiana and when she was home again in Virginia, Genevieve had always told Adrian that she wished he would show up unannounced to surprise her (you know, like Troy Bolton does for Gabriella in High School Musical 3). In VA on June 1, 2024, Genevieve went out for breakfast with her pal Haley (a maid of honor!), thinking she would not be seeing her boy for her birthday two days later, since he was still finishing PT school in PA. Meanwhile, Adrian had woken up before 6am to pack and drive down to Virginia. When Genevieve returned home from breakfast, it was to a beaming Adrian waiting for her. At first, Adrian pretended the surprise was JUST for her birthday. Halfway down the long, winding driveway, Adrian proposed. Genevieve, though she initially backed several feet away in shock, gave an enthusiastic yes!!
