When Genesis went to SCSU, they decided to join the wind ensemble. After making friends, a mutual friend introduced them. After talking on their own, Ryan and Genesis realized that their passions and skills were complimentary: Genesis loathes cooking while Ryan could spend the whole day in the kitchen. Ryan pointed this out and asked Genesis on a date. Genesis agreed. Around Thanksgiving, the pair told their respective family members that they were seeing someone. By December, they couldn't deny their feelings for each other and officially became significant others. Two weeks later, Genesis found out that they were accepted to Smith and would be moving to MA in a month's time. Ryan reminded them that he wanted to stay together, and the two of them made plans for their future apart over dinner. Once Genesis had moved, the two adapted to long distance with ease. Ryan would send laundry money as a token of his love, and Genesis would send notes of affection over text or in the mail. Eventually, the pandemic sent Genesis home while still separating the two. After all of the bumps in the road, Ryan and Genesis realized they were better together, and Ryan proposed on Genesis' birthday.
