Genesis and Rey met at Grace Church in August 2023. They were introduced by Ryan Prophete, who invited Genesis and her sister Pili to a bowling night with EZPZ. During the bowling night, Genesis and Rey shared a short conversation, though Rey kept his distance. Little did they know, this would be the beginning of their friendship journey. After months of getting to know each other as friends, Rey offered Genesis a ride to the mall. During that car ride, they talked about sharing the Gospel with nonbelieving friends — something they both deeply related to. Through that conversation, Rey caught Genesis’s attention. She admired his love for the Lord and his heart for his friends, especially his desire for them to know Christ and be saved. At the same time, Genesis had also caught Rey’s attention. He admired how she encouraged him in sharing the Gospel and appreciated her heart for seeing others come to know the Lord. From there, Genesis and Rey began texting more often, getting to know one another better, which eventually led to their “talking stage.” Even while spending the holidays with their families, they continued to stay in touch. When they both returned to Miami in January, they saw each other again at a game night. That evening, Rey gifted Genesis seashells he had collected in Puerto Rico and asked if she would go on a walk with him. During that walk, Rey shared his feelings for Genesis and asked if he could take her on a date. Genesis happily said yes, but Rey communicated that he first wanted to ask her parents for permission. A few days later, Rey met with Genesis’s parents and shared his intentions with her. Soon after, they went on their first date — mini golf and Miami Slice. Following their second date, Rey asked Genesis to be his girlfriend. Throughout their relationship, both Genesis and Rey grew individually and spiritually. As time went on, they began talking seriously about marriage and realized it was something they both desired together. After being discipled separately and guided by the people they love, Rey began searching for engagement rings and planning the proposal. On May 2, 2026, Rey proposed, and Genesis said yes. Now, they are excited to join together as one on September 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of God, their family, and their friends.
