Question

What is an Orthodox wedding ceremony like?

Answer

The ceremony can be expected to last between 45-60 minutes, and guests will be mostly standing (chairs will be available for those who cannot stand for extended periods). The Orthodox Christian church has many traditions, many of which will look different than most American weddings. We just ask that our guests enjoy the beautiful traditions of our faith!

Question

How far is the reception from the ceremony?

Answer

The drive from the church in Dripping Springs to the reception in Canyon Lake takes about 50 minutes to an hour. You will be driving mainly on country roads and the drive is beautiful.

Question

What attire is expected?

Answer

We want our guests to enjoy themselves and be comfortable. Our ceremony will be in a formal church, but our reception will be casual. Nice-casual clothing will be more than acceptable!

Question

How should I dress in an Orthodox Church?

Answer

In your “Sunday best”! Please wear what you are comfortable in; however, our church is a holy place designed to honor God, and we ask that our guests mirror that in their attire. Please visit this link to our church website if you have any questions: https://stsophiaorthodoxchurch.org/welcome
