The year was 2004. Kanye had just dropped his debut album and Usher was shocking the world with his damaging Confessions. Such a great year (not so much for Usher’s girlfriend). It would also be the year that Gen and Lance first crossed paths as they entered their freshmen year at South City High. Their mutual love for music placed them together in a variety of programs over the next four years. Between classes, practices, competitions, and performances, they found themselves spending A LOT of time together. One day, Gen decided she wanted to bake her friend Lance a cake for his 16th birthday. She picked up a box of chocolate cake mix from Safeway for $2 and got to work! Little did she know that she was following a recipe for love on the back of that box. When she brought the finished product into school the next day, Lance got the fuzzies. That cake gave him the courage to ask her out to junior prom later that year and before they knew it, they were boyfriend and girlfriend! What a great return on investment - thanks Safeway! Fun Facts: #1: Gen bought that cake mix from the Safeway on Chestnut in South City. Years later, she discovered that particular Safeway’s store number was #777! Jackpot! #2: Their junior prom theme was Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" - was it written in the stars all along? We went on to spend the entirety of our 20's together: working, going to school, traveling, and unwillingly becoming adults. We have spent every minute of that time learning from each other, supporting one another, and developing from all of the ups and downs. Our wedding is not only a continuation of our story, but an exciting time for us to celebrate our love with our closest family and friends by our side. We can't wait to celebrate with you!
