We honestly don’t remember when we first met. We’re pretty sure it was around 2003. Growing up in Watford’s big Filipino community, we’ve kind of always just known each other. To keep it real we weren’t exactly each other’s biggest fans. We ran in the same circles but have always fought like cat and dog. James thought Gem was overly-dramatic; Gem thought James was cocky and needed to be taken down a peg (or five). We were actually paired up as cotillion partners for a debut once, and the dance instructor had had enough of our bickering and told James, “Maybe you love her... the more you hate, the more you love!” He was, of course, horrified. Fast forward many years later, when Gem was in the throes of her first teenage heartbreak, James, in a moment of surprising charm, took Gem to Wagamama to cheer her up. And just like that, over some plates of chicken katsu, everything changed. And while Gem is definitely still dramatic, and James could still use taking down a peg (or five) now and then, somehow this perfectly chaotic combo just works and we wouldn't have it any other way.
