We are getting married!

They met for their first date at Cantwell’s Tavern in Odessa DE on July 16, 2020. Due to pandemic requirements, masks were required indoors but, Rob had forgotten his and decided to use a black bandanna instead. He approached her car, realizing he resembled a bandit. He went to his trusty friend - humor - and announced that he was there to steal her heart and then promptly shook her hand, which definitely caught her by surprise. Donna stated she was a hugger and reached up to hug him. Rob decided to throw caution to the wind and kissed her as she pulled away from the hug, sending her into total confusion. The pair then walked over to the Tavern and talked for hours, laughing and smiling, not wanting the date to end. They decided to go for a walk around Odessa afterward. After walking to the boat ramp on the Appoquinimink River and taking a picture on the bridge, they next explored the gardens of the historic Corbit-Sharp house. As they watched the setting sun's rays spread across the field and river, Rob again held Donna in his arms and they both knew this was something very special. They continued to walk around town, sat in a moonlit park, and even danced in the street before he kissed her goodnight by her car. Each drove away knowing that they had experienced something rare and special. They had just had their last first kiss!

Donna & Rob quickly knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, picked out their rings, and even started planning for the big event. However, Rob knew how to pop the big question and still make it a surprise. The pair had tickets to a Darius Rucker concert in Philadelphia on February 17. Rob knew this could be the perfect moment (as long as the ring arrived in time). Backstory: On Donna's way to meet Rob for their first date, the song “History in the Making” came on the radio. She loved that song & wondered if maybe it was a sign. The date went very well, & that line "this could be our last first kiss" stayed in her mind. She soon shared the song with Rob & it quickly became one of "their songs." Fast-forward to concert day - Rob is in NJ and Donna worked from home. The night before, when she got home from DC, she excitedly told him that their rings had arrived. Rob asked Donna to bring them up to see them the next day. While looking at the rings, Rob deftly slipped the engagement ring into his pocket while handing a now-empty box to Donna. After parking, Rob was incredibly nervous walking to the theater, worried about the beautiful ring hidden in his pocket,. Meanwhile, Donna wondered why he was quoting crime statistics to her as they walked the three short blocks; it wasn't like him. They arrived just a little early, got a drink to share, & settled in. Without Donna even noticing, Rob jotted down a quick note on one of his cards & handed it to a girl seated behind them; it gave her the plans for his proposal & asked her to take pictures. The look of shocked surprise on the concertgoer's face & her silent nod of agreement let Rob know that tonight would be historic indeed! Midway through the concert, Darius begins to sing "History in the Making." Rob turns to Donna and as the lyrics reach "last first kiss", he pulls out the ring, drops to one knee, & makes his proposal to his lady love. Donna was shocked, excited, & obviously said YES!
