Our Story

A long, long time ago (well, October 2022), Rachel ended up at a Halloween party hosted by a guy named Michael. The funny part? She has absolutely no memory of meeting him that night. What she does remember is playing a drinking game called slap cup and hanging with her friends. Michael, meanwhile, was busy hosting the party of the year. At that point, they were strangers — unknowingly connected by an invisible string. Fast forward to June 2023. Michael liked Rachel on Hinge, she matched with him, and the two struck up a conversation about their love of sushi and dogs. Before long, Rachel did a little “Facebook FBI work” and realized she’d actually been to his apartment months earlier. Coincidence? Fate? The jury’s still out. From there, the adventures began. Rachel and Michael quickly realized how much they loved being active together. They’ve joined soccer and softball teams, skied down mountains in Upstate NY, Vermont, and Canada, and taken an epic road trip through Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. Rachel also convinced Michael to train for and run his first half marathon. While Rachel (a marathon veteran) thought it was a blast, Michael crossed the finish line and promptly announced his official retirement from long-distance running. They also discovered that their shared passions for food, music, and culture would become cornerstones of their relationship. Together, they built a running list of NYC restaurants and rated each one like their own Michelin panel — complete with spirited debates over what truly deserves “five stars.” They’ve gone to more concerts than they can count, introducing each other to whole new worlds of music: jam bands and classic rock for Rachel, and EDM (and bands that use words) for Michael. Their concert calendar has quickly become one of their favorite ways to spend time together. Michael also helped Rachel become more “culturally relevant,” introducing her to movies and TV shows (like The Office, Harry Potter, and a whole bunch of Adam Sandler movies) — something she admittedly wasn’t great at before — and educating her on sports like real-life and fantasy football, even helping her and her friends start a league. They’ve also attended the US Open the past couple of years, and Michael has helped Rachel regain her tennis skills, which have translated to the pickleball court, where they make a formidable doubles team. He even keeps a running list of movies and shows they still need to watch together, proving that their adventures aren’t limited to the outdoors, planes, or concert stages. Williamsburg became a special place for them after moving there together, and it was on the waterfront that Michael proposed. The moment was followed by a surprise celebration with family and friends — though in true Rachel fashion, she had pieced together “clues” ahead of time. (There may or may not have been ChatGPT sleuthing involved.) Rachel and Michael’s story is simple: they love experiencing the world together, whether it’s a big trip across the globe, a concert, or discovering a new corner of their neighborhood. They’re planners, adventurers, and partners in every sense — and they can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes them.
