We're Getting Married!

In the summer of 2020, Gavin and Lydia’s paths first crossed on a boat outside of Greenbush. Lydia was visiting her grandparents for the summer, enjoying a break from the busy life of Dallas, Texas. Gavin, on the other hand, was right at home in small-town Minnesota, doing what he does best — working hard and enjoying life on the farm. Introduced through mutual friends, they didn’t talk much that day. To Lydia, it was simply a summer afternoon on the lake. To Gavin, it was the day he met the girl who would unknowingly change his plans. Not long after, Lydia returned to Texas to finish school, trading gravel roads for Dallas traffic and farm fields for city lights. Gavin stayed in Greenbush, continuing life on the farm. For nearly a year, the two didn’t speak. Then, in the summer of 2021, Lydia returned to Greenbush to spend more time with her grandparents and to pursue nursing in the Fall. When Gavin heard she was back, he decided this was his chance to really get to know her — and he spent the summer doing just that. What followed was a friendship built in the most unexpected way. Lydia would often sit with Gavin while he worked with his cows, keeping him company and slowly learning that farm life involved far more dirt, patience, and early mornings than she ever imagined. While she wasn’t much help with the actual work, Gavin never seemed to mind having her there. Meanwhile, Gavin quietly showed up wherever he was needed — fixing things around Lydia’s grandparents’ home, babysitting her younger brother, or making sure Lydia’s vehicle was safe enough to survive country roads and her driving. All the while, Gavin was very intentionally pursuing Lydia. Lydia, however, thought they were simply becoming good friends… not realizing that somewhere between the farm chores, long conversations, and time spent together, she was unknowingly falling for him too. After nearly two years of friendship (and Gavin patiently waiting for Lydia to catch on), the two officially started dating in 2023. From that moment on, they were inseparable. By late 2025, Gavin knew exactly what he wanted to do next. Truthfully, he had known for months. He tried time and time again to plan the perfect moment to propose, but every carefully thought-out plan somehow unraveled at the last minute — usually thanks to Lydia. After months of waiting for the right time, he finally decided that the perfect moment didn’t need to be perfect at all — it just needed to be theirs. So in December of 2025, Gavin got down on one knee and asked Lydia to spend forever with him. She said yes. Now they look forward to a lifetime of growing together, choosing each other every day, and building a life filled with love, laughter, and the quiet kind of happiness that feels like home.
