Our Story

So, let's take you back to the very beginning, the second day of freshman year at Wayne State College. Gavin’s sitting in his first day of Gen Ed speech class, probably half awake, when he looks up and sees this beautiful brown-haired girl walk into the classroom. That, ladies and gentlemen, was Amber. Now, fast forward a couple of weeks to the first big “About Me” speech. That’s when Amber finally notices Gavin, the tall, cute guy in the back. But it wasn’t just that he was cute, as he talked, she realized, Hey, we actually have a lot in common. And apparently, Gavin was thinking the exact same thing, because he remembered her and her name. After class, Amber hurries back to her dorm, all excited, telling her friends about this cute guy in her speech class. And wouldn’t you know it, later that same day, her phone buzzes. It’s a message from the cute guy himself, asking if she wants to join his sand volleyball team. They started hanging out through volleyball, spending more and more time together, and before long, they became close friends. Gavin, of course, realized he wanted more than friendship and decided to ask Amber out. But Amber, being the responsible freshman trying to “focus on college,” said she just wanted to be friends. That didn’t stop Gavin, though. He kept talking to her every single day, just being his charming, patient self. And then, later in the semester, something changed. Amber realized that, actually, she did want to date Gavin. But in classic rom-com fashion, the timing was all off. By then, Gavin had decided he only wanted to be friends. Amber was heartbroken, but don’t worry, our story doesn’t end there. Because not even ten days later, Gavin realized he’d made a terrible mistake. He knew he didn’t just want to be Amber’s friend; he wanted to be her person. So they started spending time together again, and this time, everything just clicked. And now, three years later, here we are. Proving that sometimes it just takes a speech class, a volleyball team, and a few mixed signals to find the love of your life.
