Taylor and Dan had mutual friends that invited them to a housewarming party, having a feeling that they would get along great. Upon introduction, Dan stole Taylor's sunglasses and wore them around the party for a while, which made her laugh, and complimented Taylor on her beer of choice (it was Labatt Blue, but to be real, Taylor had never had it before). They spent the party talking and laughing, and as the night wore on, tensions between some other party goers got to be a little too dramatic for their tastes, so they took off to enjoy the rest of the night elsewhere, and as they say, the rest was history!
Dan and Taylor try to take annual vacations, and because of COVID, they wanted to keep their 2020 getaway in their own state, and decided to go to Traverse City! On their wine tour, they made friends with two newlywed couples, and the wives were convinced Dan would propose to Taylor while on the tour in a dreamy vineyard. However, that wasn't Dan's plan. They left Traverse City on Thursday and finished the week at Dan's family cabin. There is a tradition to take what is known lovingly as a "swing picture" anytime someone visits, but this particular weekend was extremely windy and cold. At one point that Saturday (which was Sweetest Day), Dan's mom suggested they go out to take a swing picture, which Taylor didn't understand as the sun was starting to set, and again, the weather wasn't the greatest. But she knew the importance of the tradition and went outside. It was there in that special place that Taylor thought her picture was being taken, but Dan's parents were filming as Dan got down to one knee, the wind howling, and asked her to marry him. She said "of course" and proceeded to cry for a couple minutes as they embraced and enjoyed the moment that had taken almost 8 years to arrive. It was the perfect backdrop to the beginning of their new chapter together.
