Chris and I met through a college ministry on LSU campus. He was a new guy we snagged during welcome week, and I was the only one in the group who had yet to meet him. We meet on Mondays for worship, and often the group goes to Chick-fil-A for dinner or a sweet treat. Chris came along and as the last to get there the only spot left was across from me. For roughly 3 hours, we sat there and talked and talked. It was only 24 hours later that he asked me to get coffee with him on Friday. This of course, was not a date but two new friends getting to know each other. We got an afternoon coffee that turned into eating poboys for dinner in a parking lot, and that turned into Chris picking me up from my evening plans to end the night getting a drink together. Still, not a date, but two friends getting to know each other more and maybe find out if they might date later in the timeline. We spent the next 3 weeks going on “not dates” and calling it instead “intentionally hanging out”. We also spent this time in prayer, asking God for his guidance and His hand in whatever we became. After that, we got breakfast together and talked about if this was something good for us to pursue. There was no need to try and convince each other. We had both been anticipating the days going by, waiting to both say yes to this.
