How we got here

Shelley and I overlapped in New York for more than 10 years, but despite living in the same neighborhood in Boerum Hill and Shelley working in Dumbo when I lived there, and Shelley working at a wine bar that I frequented a few years later... we never managed to meet in real life. Thankfully, Tinder exists. I should explain what Tinder is, so we are all on the same page. It's a dating app used by most sophisticated, intelligent people to find true love and the rest use it for hooking up. Tinder is where the swipe left, swipe right genre comes from. It enables you to sift through hundreds of people in minutes and is not at all superficial. Shelley swiped on me first which means when I swiped on Shelley it was a match, and I never looked back. After a few messages back and forth Shelley learned that I knew what the Camino was and didn't just talk about myself and I learned that Shelley was hot and had better than average history and geography recall (for an American). For our first date, we met at a cocktail bar in Brooklyn, where I walked in suited and booted from work and delivered a masterful handshake in greeting. Shelley was thinking: this guy looks like a Wall Street jerk but after a few hours of talking about history and politics she was swooning. As we left the bar I suggested a nightcap and a few more hours of talking ensued. Now at the end of the night I, like any good gentleman, walked Shelley to her Subway stop entrance and delivered an astonishingly good peck on the cheek farewell. I knew then that she was the one and Shelley was thinking, what the heck was that kiss?
