In the Summer of 2017, Garrett attended a high school science trip to Costa Rica. Cassidy, from a different state, reluctantly attended the same trip with her high school Spanish class. As complete strangers, these two would travel around the 'Pura Vida' country on the same tour bus that would ultimately lead to their inevitable meet. Every evening, Cassidy's high school group would gather to play card games, often receiving multiple noise complaints from nearby hotel guests. One evening early on in the trip, a few guys from Cassidy's group invited people they had met on the bus to attend these game nights, Garrett being one of them. Garrett would tell you that when he entered the room, he laid eyes on a dazzling beauty. Cassidy would tell you that she wasn't looking for a man and didn't plan to go on the trip in the first place. Amidst everyone picking their partner for the next card game, Garrett was picking his soulmate. But the nine-day trip came to an end, separating Garrett and Cassidy by 16 hours, or 1,094 miles. Though space and time separated the two, Garrett continued to pursue Cassidy, attending her senior prom and igniting a long distance relationship that continued into their college years. After graduating from separate universities, Cassidy made the move to the Lone Star State to join Garrett in his deep love for the Texas Longhorns and unbeatable Texas food. It was here that he FINALLY asked her to be his bride. She happily said yes.
