They were introduced by McKenzie's best friend. After a few weeks of constant conversation and a few attempts on Garretts half, they decided to go out on a date (third times the charm). They went and got pizza at a place in their hometown that happened to be a favorite for both of them. Being the gentleman that Garrett is, he picked McKenzie up and then dropped her back home after dinner. Shortly after he left, she got a text saying that he forgot the leftover pizza on the table at the restaurant because she was such a distraction! That's when they knew this was going to be something good.

They were back in their hometown visiting family and friends but decided to take a day to themselves. They decided to go hike at one of their favorite spots but when the day came it downpoured ALL morning, Garrett kept saying we should just stay home but at around noon the sun came up and it turned into a beautiful afternoon. They drove out to White Water State Park and Garrett packed a cooler with what was assumed to have water in it and away they went to the inspiration overlook. Once they got all the way to the top and just looked out at the beauty of nature. Garrett asked if he could grab anything to drink out of the cooler, he says he had chocolate, strawberries, wine. All the stuff for a picnic but all she wanted was water, McKenzie finally turned around because she thought he was joking about not packing any water to him getting down on one knee, the rest was a blur until they looked to the left and Garrett hired a private photographer to capture the best day of their lives. And to answer your question yes he actually forgot to pack water because he was so nervous.
