Our Story

On June 25th, 2021 Luke Combs was playing in North Platte at Nebraska land days. I was there with one of my childhood friends. Before the concert, my dad strictly told me "No boys". Garrett was there with his mom and some friends. At some point during the concert, his friend pushed him up behind me because he was too nervous to come up to me. All of a sudden I realized there was a cute man standing behind me. The concert was coming to an end and I turned around and told him I had to go and walked away. Thankfully I got his friend's wife's number. I texted her and asked her for Garrett's number. She told me he had just asked for mine as well. We talked a little that weekend. We then did not talk again for a few months. Around the start of September, we started talking again. I drove up to Valentine NE in October over my fall break during my senior year of college and only told a hand full of people I was going. Then on my way home, I knew I needed to tell my parents because I had a good feeling about Garrett. I called my dad and reminded him of Nebraska land days when he told me no boys. I told him I found a man there, not a boy. Then in November 2021, he asked me out after meeting my parents. Around February 2022 we decided I should look for teaching jobs around Valentine. I got a job at Cody-Kilgore Schoosl and moved in with him in July 2022.

Our Engagement

On April 15th, 2022 Garrett and I had friends up at the house. Garrett and some of his friends said that they were going to go golfing. I stayed at home with one of his friend's fiance. She and I went to town to run some errors. She then asked if I wanted to go on a hike because we had nothing else to do while we waited for the boys. I thought she was crazy because it was cold and cloudy and neither of us had warm clothes on but I said sure anyway. She shot down all of my ideas of places to go on a walk and then suggested Fort Falls. I immediately got a smile on my face while we drove down there. Fort Falls was one of the places Garrett took me when I first came up to Valentine to hang out with him. I kept asking what was going on and she wouldn’t tell me. We got there and I saw his mom's car and the the pickup. I knew then what was going to happen. I got out of the car and started to walk down the trail. The trail was lined with pictures of him and me with lyrics from "Marry That Girl" on the back. I walk down to the falls and saw Garrett standing there with flowers. He then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I obviously said yes.
