Sara and Garrett met on a dating app in January of 2024–and it actually worked out for them. When Garrett first matched with her, Sara noticed that he had the Oxford comma as a nonnegotiable for him on his profile—an immediate green flag for this English teaching major. Garrett thought she was cute, especially posed in front of a giant bookshelf. She also played piano, which was a plus. Then, once they began messaging, Garrett mentioned he'd just read Hamlet...for fun! (Garrett was trying to impress her). And it worked! Sara was astounded. The cherry on top was that on their first date, he showed her his Goodreads, and Sara was intrigued. Both felt the date went better than expected and were game for a second date. This book-loving nerd might just be the one! At the end of their first date, she casually mentioned right as they were saying goodbye that her last name happened to be his first name—and thus the "what if he took *your* last name?" jokes began... After a few other dates, including forcing him to dance even though he'd never danced in his life, Garrett asked Sara to come to his friend's Superbowl party. Sara replied, "Well, how are you going to introduce me to your friends?" And they became official. A whole year later—after Sara's graduation, an FSY-induced-summer-separation, Sara's first year of teaching, Garrett's internships, and visiting each other's hometowns over the holidays—Garrett FINALLY proposed to Sara. Sara insisted she did NOT want to get married during the school year, and Garrett did NOT want to get married during spring term—hence a June wedding.
