How We Met

Garrett says "Rose and I met twice. The first time we met we were at the De La Rosa's wedding. I am not much of a wedding guy. I've never been into them, never really cared to dress the T, never been the guy to post about them or even take pictures at them. So it should come to no surprise that when Rose first met me, she looked great, and I was wearing shorts and chacos because I had literally drove from floating the river, straight to the wedding. I was perfectly comfortable and thought I was nailing the "granola" look I was going for, but in her exact words were, "you looked like a deadbeat, and I wanted nothing to do with you." So that was a great time... The second time we met, I was much more in my element. We were on the beach at Kaleo where I was shirtless with a tan and sun-bleached dreadlocks. She didn't even know I was the same guy from the wedding, but she lost a bet and had to come say hi and that was that for her. It took us awhile to put it together that we had met before, and it wasn't until a little over a year that I asked her on a date and here we are. I have no more dreads, and I won't be wearing chacos to this wedding..."

The Proposal

Rose says "I don't like surprises... maybe its a control issue. After dating for about a year I knew a proposal was coming because we had had some conversations about being engaged and married, and we met with a married couple (Jeff and Alex Coffman) who are a few years and steps ahead of us and they helped us prepare for that step (such a good idea)! We had been doing long-distance our entire relationship so I was itching to be engaged and have an end to the distance in sight. I knew it would be November 16th after Abbie Lemmons asked me to get my nails done that week! Friday night Garrett came to Springfield and we spent some time together before he was going to head to a friend's house to stay the night, but before he left he handed me a letter that told me to be ready for him to pick me up at 6:30... IN THE MORNING to go "watch the sunrise". I knew it;) We pulled up to the field where he first kissed me and he had a name log, carved by my dad, rose petals, and flowers waiting. Then he told me he loved me for the first time, a phrase we both considered so sacred that we wanted to wait to say it, and Garrett asked me to be his wife. He planned everything so perfectly and worked so hard. It was perfect! Then we got to party with all our favorite people. I wouldn't change a thing!"
