As my sweet Garret likes to say it, “we met on the dirty internet”. Garret and I met on a dating app called Hinge. Garret planned an amazing first date at a steak house. I was beyond excited! I got all dolled up & even went to the store to see if I could find a new dress. A couple hours before he was to pick me up, Garret texted me that his boss needed him to stay & do some extra work at FedEx & he felt terrible but he had to cancel the date that night. To put it lightly, I was devestated. At the time, I thought it was a “too good to be true” moment & thought he was ditching me for good. He quickly responded back asking to move our date to any other day & that he would make it happen no matter what! I tried to play it off as though I was super busy & wasn’t sure if I could for awhile but let’s be honest... I would have made any time work for him! So we agreed to meet the very next day. That next day, Garret came to pick me up for our first date. I vividly remeber him stepping out of his truck to greet me & to open my door & all I could think was “ohhhh my! This man is even more handsome in person & that smile is to die for!” My heart was beating out of my chest. We talked the whole car ride there & it felt as though we had known each other forever! We got to the resturaunt & the man told us that our reservation was running behind so he sat us at the bar. Garret and I were enjoying talking so much that we didn’t realize that we had been sitting there & talking for over a hour already. The owner came over to apologize & we weren’t the least bit concered as we truly were loving the time to talk to each other. Once we were seated, we had an amazing meal. We even tried escargo & both agreed that this was our first and last time eating it. He drove me home & before we said goodbye, we quickly agreed to meet up the next morning for breakfast. We met for breakfast the next day & let me tell you, we both knew deep down that we had met our lifetime partner.
Garret and I closed and moved into our house on July 19th. We had spent all day running around and moving. Garret mentioned that he wanted to get dinner to celebrate moving into our home. We stopped unpacking around 5pm to decided to get ready and go to dinner. We went to our favorite local resturaunt, State House, for some great food and beers. We enjoyed each others company and then headed to Garret’s parents house for a bit to grab a few things and to chat. After that we headed home and Garret said that we should walk through our front door since we normally will pull into the garage and go through there. As we got to our front door, I stopped him and said “hold on! Let me take a picture of you opening our door” and little did I know that when we now look back at this photo you can see a little square box in his back pocket :) He opened the door and I immediately began to cry. The floor was covered in red rose petals, there were twinkling lights all over, and candles everywhere. He told me to walk upstairs and I walked up to an amazing set up of flowers, lights, candles, petals, pictures of us, champagne, and desserts. As I stood there in awe, he got down on one knee and one of the things I will never forget him saying is “I may have just bought us a house, but you are what makes it a home. Will you marry me?” * Cue ugly happy tears lol * This was the easiest “yes” ever!
