Our story begins way back when we were in each other's kindergarten class. No, we aren't kindergarten sweethearts, but we do love that we can remember each other at every phase of growing up. For instance, Garland will never forget Will's legendary victory "Big Bill for [class] President" in 5th grade, and Will is still embarrassed that he was always picked behind Garland in pickup basketball on the playground. So when did the romance begin? Garland asked Will out on our first date to Sadie Hawkins our senior year of high school - she swears it was only as a friend! Although we entered the night as friends, after a night of dancing amid the twinkling lights of our school cafeteria, we both left thinking something special might be there. The next week, Will asked Garland out for our first real date. Man, did he pull out all the stops, even ordering only vegetarian food to impress Garland (something he would never do now!). By divine intervention, we ended up at neighboring colleges, allowing our brand new relationship to continue. Our relationship grew in strength throughout our four years in college, and we know that we will look back at our time spent in Blumpy's den, The Lodge, Shooters, and, of course, The Crunkleton with fondness. After college, we "grew as a couple," experiencing our first extended time of long-distance dating. The year apart was difficult but allowed us to reflect on how fundamental of a role our relationship played in each other's happiness. When Garland was accepted to Emory for medical school, there was no doubt - she would join Will in Atlanta and long-distance would be over! Just over one year after Garland moved to Atlanta, Will planned a trip for us back to Chapel Hill. On a beautiful NC afternoon, Will asked Garland to be his wife, and she said yes! We celebrated with our two families at the Fearrington House, a special place to us. We cannot wait to celebrate our marriage with YOU, our closest family and friends, in August!
