Kaylee Brown

Daughter of Bride/Bridesmaid

Hey y’all! I’m Kaylee — as most of you know, the daughter of the beautiful bride and now, the groom… yay! I’m a rising sophomore at Morgan State University, studying health education on the pre-physical therapy track… GO BEARS! When not immersed in studying and travel back home, I proudly work at SOCYA Daycare and Dick’s Sporting Goods. In my free time, you can usually find me sleeping (lol), playing volleyball, hanging out with my family, or shopping (which my mom says I do too much)! I also love spending time with my new friends at MSU and working with the athletic training program, supporting the wrestling and track teams. For all 19 years of my life, it’s always been me and my mom. And while we’ve definitely bumped heads a time or two, I wouldn’t trade our bond for anything. Watching her step into this new chapter and finally claim the title of wife makes me so incredibly happy. To Shawn — thank you for not only stepping into my mom’s life, but into mine as well. Thank you for loving me like your own and becoming a father figure I can always count on. And now that you’re officially part of the team, I’m extra excited… because when my mom tells me “no,” I finally have someone else to ask! I’m so excited for the both of you and everything the future holds. Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories together!

Jocquita Williams

Bride’s Best Friend/Maid of Honor

Hey y’all! I’m Jocquita “Quita” Williams—a social worker by profession, hype woman by nature, and the Maid of Honor for this fabulous occasion. I work for a nonprofit in Greensboro, NC, and I’m the trademark owner of Live Honey, a lifestyle brand encouraging women to Get Up! Get Out! And Live! I’ve also run Best Friends Events for over 20 years and I create content for a real estate group on the side—because I like to keep things interesting. When I’m not working, you’ll find me planning a function, snapping photos, or hopping on a plane. Whether it’s a quick getaway or a passport stamp, I’m always down for an adventure. Now about the bride—JAB—my best friend, my soul sister. I can’t even remember exactly when we met but when we did we instantly clicked, and the rest is beautifully unexplainable. As the only girl and oldest of five, I never had a sister growing up—but God gave me Julia. She’s the calm to my chaos, the voice of reason to my “let’s just wing it,” and one of only two people who call me by my full name to get me to focus. 🤣 It’s an absolute honor to stand by her as she becomes Mrs. JAG. Shawn had me at “Team JAB and Belle (Kaylee).” From day one, he showed up with love, and seeing them together makes my heart do a happy dance (the same one I’ll be doing at the reception). So buckle up—we’ve got love, laughs, and one unforgettable celebration ahead. Let’s gooo!

Patical Banks

Sister of Bride/Bridesmaid

Hi, I’m Patical Banks, the proud sister of the beautiful bride! I’m a Practice Manager at a community health center, where I’m passionate about helping underserved communities and making a positive impact every day. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me with a good book or planning my next vacation. I’m so excited to celebrate the union between Julia and Shawn and to witness the start of their beautiful journey together. I’m manifesting a lifelong, love-filled, and blessed marriage for them—one that’s as strong and joyful as this special day. Thanks, Patical Banks

Leslie Evans

Sister of Bride/Bridesmaid

I'm Leslie-care coordinator at Levin's Cancer Infusion Center by day, and the treat-making mastermind behind More Than Just Applez LLC by night. I love a good vacation, a great dessert, and any time spent with my grandkids and my partner of 18 years, Ami. I've known the bride forever—she's my little sister, after all. I'm wishing her and her new hubby a lifetime full of love, laughter, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting.

Stephanie Camp

Cousin of Bride/Bridesmaid

Hello, my name is Stephanie “Mary Katherin” Camp, and I’m the proud owner of A Step Above Home Care Services. Starting this business was a leap of faith. I had to learn everything on my own, but with support from amazing family and friends, I’ve been truly blessed. Fun fact—Julia is actually the one who named my business! She’s always been my go-to, and if she doesn’t have the answer, she’ll make sure to point me in the right direction. I know she’s always in my corner. Julia was my baby when she was a baby, and now she’s given me a piece of her heart in Kaylee—and I love them both more than words. Now I’m gaining a new cousin in Shawn, and I’ve grown to love him just the same. Shawn, thank you. She needed you—she might not have known it, but she did. I pray everything you and Julia build together stands strong and lasts forever. Love you guys for life, Mary K…

Angela Kennedy

Friend of Bride/Bridesmaid

Hi Everyone, I'm Angela. I was born and raised in Ridgeway, SC, and I'm a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina. In my spare time, you’ll usually find me enjoying the outdoors or cheering on my daughter at her sports events. I've had the privilege of serving as a Social Worker for the past 23 years—and it was through this work that I met Julia. From day one, we just clicked, and we’ve been close ever since. Julia was my doctor long before she officially became a DOCTOR(yes, with all caps and confetti!). I probably called on her a million times during and after my daughter’s birth. Over the years, I’ve watched Julia embody so many beautiful roles: a nurturing MOTHER, a loyal FRIEND, a listening CONFIDANTE, a skilled NURSE, a loving SISTER, a devoted DAUGHTER, a doting AUNT, and even an unofficial COUNSELOR. And now, I get the ultimate honor of watching her step into the role of WIFE! Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Shawn and Julia, I couldn’t be more excited for you both! I’m praying for endless joy and blessings in your marriage and can’t wait to see what amazing things lie ahead for you two. With all my love and excitement, Angela Kennedy

Saqinah Bounds

Godsister of Bride/Bridesmaid

My name is Saqinah Bounds. I’m a proud single mother of a young adult college student, and I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I’ve known Julia since I was two years old, and I can truly say that God places people in your life for a reason. Julia is my God-sister, but most people think we’re biological sisters—and honestly, it doesn’t matter because the bond is real. Either way, she’s always been the boss! When I first met Shawn, I told Julia, “He’s the one.” He got my name right the first time, and he clearly understood the kind of woman he had in her. I knew right away—he’s a keeper. The love and respect he’s shown Julia, Kaylee, my son, and me won me over without question. I’m beyond excited to witness and celebrate the union of my sister and my new brother-in-love. This is truly a beautiful beginning.

Shawn Gardner Jr.

Son of Groom/Groomsman

My name is Shawn Gardner Jr. I'm the first and only son of the groom. I recently graduated from college at MTSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Audio Engineering. I currently live in Nashville Tennessee where I work as an aspiring audio producer and musician. To me my father has always been a strong, independent Black man who carved out his own path, who never asked for permission to succeed, and who never let me forget where I came from or how far I could go. Watching him build a life on his own terms taught me more than any classroom ever could. He showed me that leadership isn’t loud—it’s consistent. Some of my most memorable moments are those we would have in his shop. He used to run around five points in Norfolk. He would show me how to present myself and how street smarts can be more important than book smarts at times. He always had me keeping my head on a swivel and to make sure I knew right from wrong. He's the best father and role model a son could ask for and I wish him and Julz the best of luck on their future endeavors together. Love Yall !

TJ Tabb

Groom’s Best Friend/Best Man

I’m, TJ, Shawn’s best man! I take immense pride in being a devoted family man, a veteran, and a truck driver. Shawn and I have shared a lifelong bond, growing up side by side. The song "Boys to Men" perfectly captures our journey. From our early days of simply hanging out and showcasing our dance moves in talent shows to navigating the halls of the same schools, our friendship has been a constant source of joy. We’ve worked side by side at various jobs, saving up to buy the latest shoes and eagerly collecting music that defined our youth. Together, we've witnessed the miracle of parenthood, celebrating the milestones as our children blossomed into remarkable adults. Shawn has also played a pivotal role in my love story with my wife, contributing to the beautiful path of our lives. Shawn and Julia, as you embark on this new chapter together, I wish you nothing but the best. Always remember the importance of communication, the power of prayer, and the joy of dating each other amidst life's hustle. Embrace every moment and enjoy this beautiful journey together.

Art Harvey

Cousin of Groom/Groomsman

Salutations all; my name is Art Harvey, I am a Cyber Security Consultant and Small Business Owner. Originally from Norfolk, Va; I now reside in the Washington DC metro area (Southern Maryland, not far from the National Harbor. I have had the pleasure of enjoying multiple experiences with Shawn Gardner, too numerous to even begin to mention in this intro! What I will say is "when a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. Julia and I first met at Charlie's during one of her visits to Norfolk (When I figured he was really serious about this new journey.) I know in you Julia, Shawn has found his ying. I'm looking forward to having her as a new addition to our extended family. I'm looking forward to being a part of this union and wish you all the best. May God bless you two in this endeavor!

Sundiata Morris

Friend of Groom/Groomsman

Hello everyone, My name is Dr. Sundiata Morris — professional barber, business owner, educator, author, coach, and co-founder of Cut My Foundation. Shawn, my brother and mentor, changed my life. After countless rejections, he was the first to give me a chance to cut hair in his shop — a chance that pulled me away from the streets and set me on the path I’m on today. I’m forever grateful. We shared unforgettable moments — from wild nights and bar fights to black-tie rooftop parties. Even when I was too young to get into places, Shawn would lend me his ID — and trust me, we looked just alike! Lol. More than that, he taught me how to carry myself: to walk with pride, discipline, and a smile. Those lessons built the brotherhood we share. Shawn, I’m proud of you. The foundation we built — moving in sync, without ego — was God’s way of preparing us for greater things. Keep following that blueprint with Julia, and your blessings will be endless. Congratulations, brother — I love you both!

Ron Hargette

Friend of Groom/Groomsman

Hi everyone! I am Ron Hargette, a family man and entrepreneur who has been happily married for over 24 years. I met Shawn in 2015 at Golden Crust, a Jamaican restaurant, in the University area in Charlotte. Shawn asked me where I get my hair cut and then proceeded to give me a business card. This sparked up a conversation only to find out we know mutual people in Norfolk, Virginia. During the conversation, I informed him that I own UNI Salon Suites and Legendary Cuts Barbershop in the same area as the restaurant and I told him to stop by. At that time, I needed a manager for the barbershop "and look at God", Shawn has been with us ever since. Before we knew it, we became good friends; started hanging out and traveling together. He became a part of the family. Then one day he came and said to me "I think I met the one." Soon after my wife and I met Julia and we instantly liked her. She fit right in. It's ironic how he and I met at a Jamaican restaurant and then we went to a wedding in Jamaican where he proposed to her. In the immortal words of Bob Marley "Love the life you live. Live the life you love." I wish Shawn and Julia nothing but happiness as they start this new journey in their lives.

Maury Gillis

Friend of Groom/Groomsman

My name is Maury Gillis, and I’m a professional barber and proud father of five and grandfather of three. Im a God-fearing man and strives to live out my purpose by encouraging and inspiring others. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Shawn for about three years now. We first met at Legendary Cuts, where we still work side by side today. Shawn is not only a great barber but also a stand-up guy — someone who truly cares about his craft and the people around him. It’s been a blessing to work with him and to build a friendship over the years. To Shawn and Julia, I wish you both endless love, happiness, and success in your journey together. May your marriage be filled with joy, laughter, and the kind of partnership that only grows stronger with time. May you always find strength in each other, cherish each moment, and continue to inspire everyone around you. Congratulations and God bless you both!

David Camp

Friend of Groom/Groomsman

Hello everyone, My name is David Camp. I’m the owner of Camp and Camp Cleaning Services and a passionate dog breeder who genuinely loves animals. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures. I met Shawn, through Julia, who is my wife’s cousin. Funny enough, before meeting Shawn, I had never met any of Julia’s male friends. For Kaylee’s graduation, we all traveled to Jamaica for a celebration trip. During that time, Shawn and I really bonded. One night, Shawn shared his feelings about Julia with me, I won’t share all the details, but the sincerity in his eyes when he spoke told me everything I needed to know — Julia had found her person. Honestly, it’s safe to say I fell in love with him that night too — lol! I’ve known Julia since she was much younger, and seeing her now, finding someone who truly loves, respects, and cherishes her, brings me so much joy. Shawn and Julia, I wish you both a lifetime of love, happiness, and endless adventures together.

Macavelli Banks

Bride’s nephew/Flower Guy

My name is Macavelli Banks, and I am the proud nephew of the bride. I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina. To me, my aunt has always been the definition of strength, independence, and hard work. She taught me valuable life lessons — most importantly, the difference between wants and needs — and for that, I will always be grateful. One of my favorite memories is from when she used to watch my sister and me after school while our mom was in hair school. I’ll never forget the time she made me rewrite an essay six times until it was just right. That was the moment I realized she took education very seriously😁. I’m beyond thankful that Shawn came into her life, not only to love her, but to show her that she’s not in it alone. He embraced Kaylee as his own, and for that, I couldn’t have asked for a better uncle. I love you both deeply, and I wish you endless love, happiness, and success in this new chapter together.

Yung Sherrill

Bride’s Nephew/Flower Guy

What’s up, everyone — my name is Yung, and I’m Julia’s nephew. I’m a barber by trade and take a lot of pride in my craft. There’s nothing like giving someone a fresh cut and seeing that confidence shine through. Outside the shop, you’ll find me on the basketball court — and just so y’all know, can’t none of the wedding party guard me. Bring your sneakers if you think otherwise, lol! I’m pretty sure I first met Shawn at a family game night. It was all fun and laughs — but it was clear from the start that game night would never be the same. Shawn came ready to compete, and we’ve been having a blast ever since. Definitely a great guy. As the cousins already know, I’m Aunt Julia’s favorite — facts😝. She’s always supported me in everything I do. I’ll never forget the day she worked with me on learning the months of the year, we sat in the car until I got it!— tough love at its finest, love that has helped shape me into the man I am today. Seeing how Shawn makes her smile is so inspiring. He brings out a light in her that’s beautiful to see. Auntie, I’m proud of everything you’ve achieved. Thank you for showing us what’s possible when you push through in this crazy world. I love y’all — congratulations!

Rodney Freeman

Officiant

Happily married to my high school sweetheart, Jeanine for 28 wonderful years. I serve full-time in ministry, as well as, a community advocate for the marginalized. Since 2000, I've served as Senior Pastor at Mt. Zion Restoration Church, where I met Julia. She has been an inspiration and a dear friend to Jeanine and me. Julia's tenacity and determination have led her to great achievements. As a single mother, she refused to let adversity derail her dreams, choosing instead to use it as fuel to overcome obstacles for herself and Kaylee. I'm humbled by the respect Julia shows me as her pastor and friend. Years ago, we made an agreement: I would have the opportunity to meet and "approve" any man she considered a potential partner. Julia is a great catch for any man, and I wanted to be certain anyone entering her life was worthy. One day, she excitedly told me she had potentially met "the one", and he was already aware of my desire to meet him-- in walks Shawn Gardner. Julia and I often joked about how she couldn’t wait to find a husband who would help with taking out the trash. After meeting Shawn, I happily gave my blessing. I’m overjoyed that God has answered Julia’s prayers for a loving and caring spouse in Shawn—plus, he’s got the trash covered. As Proverbs 18:22 says, 'He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.' Shawn, you’ve found a truly good thing in Julia Banks. My heartfelt prayer is that you both enjoy a lifetime of happiness together!
