On a warm afternoon at the Catamaran Resort in San Diego, my friends and I couldn’t help but notice 6 girls walking down the beach with their maroon and gold U of M backpacks. After deciding to go introduce ourselves, it didn’t take long to decide to spend break as one big Minnesota crew. Jamie caught my attention the moment I saw her, not just because of her red hair, but her beautiful smile stretching from ear to ear. Jamie and I had an instant connection, at times during that first day I felt like no one else was at the resort. The day started by endlessly chatting down at the pool and ended with holding hands on the mission beach boardwalk at sunset. The next night we went on our first date, a romantic cruise across the bay. That was one of the best nights of my life (even though we got off at the wrong spot and almost got stranded across the bay - miles away from the resort!). After that night there was no doubt in my mind that Jamie was the girl for me. The next morning as she was leaving, I handed her my favorite sweatshirt with a promise that I would come visit her soon...
In July 2018, we were back in San Diego, CA for a friend’s wedding, Alex planned a day at the same beach where we met. We spent the day reminiscing on the crazy story of how we met, our journey through 4.5 years of distance, and how incredibly lucky we are. We walked down the same mission beach boardwalk we did in 2014 and ate at the same beachfront restaurant. Dipping our toes in the ocean and walking hand in hand, we stopped at sunset. Before I knew it, Alex was on one knee, declaring his love and asking to marry me! I was so surprised and SO excited, I think I said yes at least 100 times!! I felt like the luckiest girl in the world (and still do)!
