The Beginning

Spring 2016

While it may not be a fairy tale beginning, we did in fact meet on a dating app. However, we were both too embarrassed to tell our families this. Danielle's family was told that we met in line at a coffee shop while Matt's family was told that we met on a flight to New York. The funniest part? Matt hates coffee and Danielle had never even flown on a plane until 2018. The First Meeting Our first time meeting in person took place at one of Matt's slow-pitch softball games. Danielle, unfamiliar with the sports complex, mistakenly parked on the opposite end and walked the entire way until she found the right field. She was welcomed by two of Matt's sisters, Marley and Mariah, who kept her company until Matt had a break from the action. The meeting ended sweetly with Matt driving Danielle to her car, parting ways with a hug, and setting up their first real date together. The First Date Our first date was at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. We were able to visit all of the best exhibits, and Danielle told Matt everything she knew about frogs, which, you know, is a lot. In fact, Danielle told Matt that her chosen way to die would be being buried alive by tiny frogs. While this isn't the most romantic line for a first date, something about it must have worked, Matt asked Danielle to officially be his girlfriend shortly after.

The Proposal

Lover's Leap 2020

During summer of 2020, we went on a vacation to a very special place. We visited the Black Hills National Forest and Custer State Park. Our trip was filled with some gorgeous hikes, some exciting views, and doing what we love the most: camping. On one of our hikes, the famous Lover's Leap trail in Custer State Park, Matt decided he would pop the question. The answer, of course, was YES! Although our wedding is not until 2022, we decided this would be our safest bet to keep our loved ones safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We thank you all for your patience, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you!

The Elopement

October 2022

We have decided to elope! Or, rather. we have decided to have a very small and very private ceremony with our 2 witnesses. If you know anything about Matt and Danielle, you know they are not ones for the spotlight. They both prefer a quiet, outdoor ceremony over a large spectacle. So, we have decided that the best thing for us is to elope. We are eloping in a private ceremony in Vermillion, SD prior to our reception. We hope you will join us at our reception for food, games, and drinks! All of our closest family members and friends are invited to celebrate our union as the Galvin-Sommerhalders at a reception taking place on October 29, 2022 at The Pointe in Elk Point, SD.

The Party

October 2022

This is the part that will involve all of you! We want your help celebrating our elopement! We will host a reception at The Pointe on October 29, 2022. Features of this event include dinner, drinks, games, and celebrating the happy couple! We cannot wait to see you there!
