Dine like Katelyn at the HERS Choice features "what tastes great with great beer and friends - think: raw oysters, house-made fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, shareable apps and fresh baked cookies", all in a beautiful river-side environment. The Future Mrs. Galbraith says yes please!
The third of the Peaks of Otter. Perfect for a half day hike, with views of the surrounding more prominent mountains. To get to the trailhead, pull into the Peaks of Otter Visitor Center off of the Blue Ridge Parkway and park there. Proceed to the outdoor amphitheater behind the center. At the rear of the amphitheater there is a large sign showing Harkening Hill and let the fun begin!
Gotta love those VA mountains! This is the most popular trail at the Peaks and originates at the Nature Center across the Parkway from the Visitor Center. This is a steep and strenuous route and should be attempted only by those in good health. The summit offers an impressive 360-degree view of the Peaks of Otter area, the Piedmont to the east, and the Shenandoah Valley with the Allegheny mountains to the west.
Beginning where the Blackwater Creek Trail ends on Jefferson Street, RiverWalk first travels along Riverfront Park through historic downtown Lynchburg. The multi-use trail then crosses onto Percival’s Island, a beautiful natural area with earthen trails crisscrossing its length. You will come along a bridge covered in padlocks with thrown away keys symboling love that knows no end - special points if you can find our lock!
