Our story started in the strange year of 2020, sort of. At some point, our paths crossed at the bar of the General Denver hotel, where we were both regulars. A glance of familiarity slowly evolved into a nod of recognition, and this, in turn, gave rise to passing conversations about craft beer and the food served there. Some time passed, and we eventually found ourselves on a late-night date for ice cream. So there we sat in the parking lot of the Wilmington UDF, sipping milkshakes and watching all manner of peculiar people and behaviors of the late-night crowd. We sat at the furthest corners of Samantha’s car, talking about whatever came to mind. It was about as awkward as first dates can go (I was a bit terrified of her). Sam brought her concealed-carry, and I didn’t want to find out if she was an excellent shot! She was cute, but I was cautious! That night, we spent hours talking while slowly moving to the center of the car. No topic was off limits, and the conversation was intoxicating, dogs, boats, motorcycles, and cooking were just the beginning of the conversation that kept us out well past midnight right there in the parking lot. Over the next few months, she found all kinds of music I hadn’t heard (and sometimes didn’t care for), and I showed her a ton of movies that she hadn’t seen before (that she scrolled through). We were clicking all the boxes, but I was still sure we were "just friends". That spring, she went on a trip south for two weeks or so (it seemed longer), and I realized I missed her more than a little bit. When she returned, I decided that we should probably be a thing. I decided to let her know in the form of an " I love you" when I realized the time was right to introduce her to my son (you should have seen the shock on her face). After that, pretty much all of our adventures have been together. Happily in love for better or worse. I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t trade them for anything, except maybe for an earlier start.
