We met our freshman year of high school. Billy was loud and wild and exciting. I wasn’t. By senior year, we were close friends. Billy was the same- driving fast, talking fast, reading poetry, ranting about anything and everything. My parents loved him. My mom says she could see in the way he looked at me that he loved me. My dad awkwardly suggested that Billy and I should be dating. Billy told me hundreds of times that we should be dating. I ignored them all. I moved away. Billy became a step father to Lil, and very soon became a father to Brad as well. We lost touch. We bumped into each other once or twice in those 12 or so years, but that was it. I often said to Bryanna and Lu: ‘I wonder what ever happened to Billy?’ We all loved him and missed him. Bryanna moved back to Colfax 5 years ago, and when she signed up for a Post Office Box, she kept getting mail for Billy Saunders. She barely mentioned it to me, until she tracked him down and he asked about me and she told him I was moving back to the area as well. She gave him my number, and I texted him to say hi and catch up. He called me 5 minutes later, and we talked and talked. And that was that! Fate, Obviously. Also- always listen when your father gives advice.
