He Had YouTubeTV

Our story began as most modern romance epics do: with a swipe and a need for reasonably priced streaming subscriptions. It was July 2021, and everyone was adapting to a post COVID world in which social interactions became increasingly more difficult. People were growing more accustomed to working from home and binging documentaries about tiger zookeepers arrested for felonies. But through the ever-changing landscape of how people connect and interact, the most sought-after connection desired by most remained: to find love. At the time, Bumble was a popular dating app, and I spent my fair share of time swiping through potential partners. Contrary to popular belief, I had trouble making matches. I can only attribute this to the fact that I am too much of a catch that most women would find matching intimidating or because my photos were too good they thought my profile was fake. Not contrary to popular belief: Gaby is not like most women. When I saw Gaby’s profile, it was the easiest and fastest swipe right I ever made. I saw she was from Arlington and played soccer at TWU, but it was her smile that hooked me. I didn’t even see her full profile because her smile was all that mattered. I was elated when I got that match notification and saw Gaby swiped right on me too. My excitement came with an underlying nervousness because now we were on the clock. For those unfamiliar with how Bumble works: the woman must initiate the conversation, and she has 24 hours to do so before the match disappears. With each minute that my phone remained silent, my excitement turned into panic. As the final minutes ticked away, I remembered that Bumble allows one daily extension, which can be used on a single match. I knew I had to use it. I pulled the trigger and extended the match, hoping Gaby would notice. Her first message was only two words: “Hey Steve!” At first glance, it appeared that my future fiancé addressed me by the wrong name. But I’ve been told by countless friends and strangers I strongly resemble Steve Harrington from Stranger Things. Lucky for me, Steve is Gaby’s favorite character. I responded to her message and we soon started talking about tv, sports, and food. After messaging for a while, I asked if she would like to go to dinner. I had recommended three potential restaurants for the date- to which she responded, “Moxies is the vibe.” She also inquired if I had a YoutubeTV subscription. I found the question a bit odd- but did confirm I was a subscribing member. She asked if after dinner we could watch the US Women’s National Soccer Team play in the quarter final of the Olympics, which was only available to watch on YoutubeTV. So, our date quickly shifted from just dinner to dinner and a game- which I was very excited for. Fortunately, the gals won the game in penalty kicks. Unfortunately, Gaby got food poisoning from her vegetarian bowl from Moxies. I felt so bad she got sick after our first date and thought she wouldn’t want to go out again. Fortunately for me, she was eager to go out again, and we made plans to watch the semi-finals. It wasn’t until much later that I found out one of the reasons she wanted to go out was not only because of me, but so she could watch the gals play because I had YoutubeTV and she did not. I’ve always thought that was funny and appreciate the hustle- because game recognize game. It also showcases how passionate Gaby is about soccer, which I love about her, because that passion carries over to every aspect of her life. She loves hard and cares so much about her family, friends, career, and hobbies. One of the things I love most is she has this unwavering drive when she decides on something. Whether that’s running the New York Marathon or going out with a guy because he has YoutubeTV and she can watch Olympic soccer with it. Since then, we’ve watched countless games together with many more to come. I still have that YoutubeTV subscription and Gaby is no longer a vegetarian.
