This is arguably the best time to visit Lake Tahoe! -If you want to enjoy the lake, check out Sand Harbor or Kings Beach. The water is actually at it's warmest in early September! -If you enjoy hiking, check out, Eagle Lake Trail (easy + scenic), Mount Tallac (challenging + insane views), Rubicon Trail (lake views the whole way) -See the Salmon run at Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Peak is late September. You can watch salmon swim upstream.
Just outside of Reno, wild horses roam the hills and desert areas. The Virginia Range is home to thousands of free-roaming mustangs. -Easiest: drive around south Reno / Virginia Range Drive around south Reno + Washoe Valley. Go early morning or late afternoon (they come down to graze). Look for Open meadows, water sources, hillsides near roads. Best roads to see them are Geiger Grade (NV-341), Veterans Parkway area (south Reno), and USA Parkway (east of Reno). -Most scenic: hike a trail like Kimon Damonte -Most guaranteed: book a guided tour
