Question

Why Santa Fe?

Answer

Santa Fe has always been a special place for Julia and the entire Gabriel family. Julia’s grandparents moved to Santa Fe from New York in 1978, following in the footsteps of Julia’s Uncle Trip (who worked as a busboy at La Posada in 1977!), and Julia and Tallen grew up visiting Santa Fe every year. From ages 8-12, Julia attended Suzuki music camp at the College of Santa Fe every summer, which was always the highlight of her year. When Julia first brought Mike to spend the holidays in Santa Fe, it was a key milestone in him becoming part of the family, and he immediately could see what a magical place it was. Julia’s beloved grandma “GG” passed away in November 2024 at the age of 97, but was so thrilled to learn that Julia and Mike would be getting married in the town she had called home for the past 46 years. We are overjoyed to bring all of our favorite people together in this special place to celebrate our marriage.

Question

How do I get to Santa Fe?

Answer

Please see our "Travel" section.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Friday night: Cocktail attire (cowboy boots permitted!). Saturday: Black tie encouraged (tuxedos and long dresses please). Since this is still the southwest, bolo ties for men are welcome, and ladies should feel free to wear color. Please reach out if you have any questions about attire.

Question

What is the temperature in Santa Fe in September?

Answer

Santa Fe is located at 7,200 feet – you’ll hear the term “high desert” a lot. Typical temperatures in early September range from 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, with minimal humidity, and drop to 44-55 degrees at night. Make sure to drink lots of water if you’re not accustomed to the elevation!

Question

What should I do during the rest of the weekend?

Answer

Santa Fe has everything you could want for a long weekend – a world-famous fine arts and opera scene, too many museums to count, incredible food options (featuring delicious New Mexican cuisine), indigenous craft markets, craft breweries and coffee shops, and breathtaking hikes. See the "Things to Do" tab for more specific suggestions.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

For maximum convenience, we encourage all guests to stay at La Posada (see our “Travel” section for instructions on how to book using our room block). The ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and afterparty will each be held at La Posada on Saturday, and you can book shuttles directly from ABQ to the hotel (see our “Travel” section for more information). For those who would prefer to stay elsewhere, there are plenty of other excellent hotels and Airbnbs located in and around Santa Fe. We recommend staying near the Plaza for walkability. La Posada is a historic home dating back to 1882, which has since been turned into a hotel. Its founder (who reportedly still haunts her old room!) was coincidentally named Julia!

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

We love kids, but have limited space available at the venue. We ask that you please not bring children older than 6 months unless we have specifically invited them to participate. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Question

Will the wedding be inside or outside?

Answer

All of the above! Weather permitting, our ceremony will be in an outdoor courtyard, followed by dinner on the lawn under an outdoor marquee and dancing inside.

Question

Will Margot be there?

Answer

Yes.
